What Type of Boat Should I Buy for Recreation in Northern Texas?
Living in the Dallas/Fort Worth are means having access to several lakes and marinas in the summer. Read on to hear about my first boat and to learn which type of boat might be right for you!
I remember the day I earned enough money to buy my first Boat. I shopped long and hard for the best used boat I could afford. My efforts paid off when I found and purchased my first fishing boat. It was a 1980 Cajun, with an Evinrude outboard. I was just 28 years old and very happy that I finally had my own boat for weekend fishing and relaxing.
Since that time, I have owned a few more boats and even a few jet skis. I remember thinking my Ranger fishing boat was the coolest thing on the water. I had the best electronics, trolling motor, battery charger and even a great looking trailer.
Since then, I have settled down a bit and have found comfort and ease with a pontoon boat. My Bennington 21 foot pontoon is perfect for my love of fishing and my family’s love of skiing, wake boarding and cruising around the lake to just relax – which my wife especially enjoys.
I also have friends with boats and some of them have large cabin cruisers, which require a larger lake like Lewisville or Lake Texoma. Cabin cruisers are nice and comfortable and you can even spend the night in them.
Boats are a fantastic way for a family to enjoy the cooling effects of water in our hot Texas summers. If you like to fish, springtime cannot be beat and many times we have a long, hot fall, which extends the boating season on the lakes.
Jet skis are also a great way to stay cool, especially for a family with teenagers. For single folks or couples who want to be on the water, a double-seater is a great place to start. It is less money than a full size boat and is easier to tow and store.
No matter which watercraft you choose — a fishing and skiing boat, pontoon boat, cabin cruiser, runabout, inboard, outboard, sailboat or jet ski — boating is a great way to stay cool in the Texas heat. Being on the water sooths the human soul and is the perfect way to spend a lazy summer day relaxing with family and friends. Boating has added much value to my family’s life and I hope you find your perfect boating/jet ski combination and enjoy!
